Notes

  • This course is required only for BS-EE students.

  • MATH 233 fulfills the Thematic elective for BS-CSE majors.

  • To take this course at another institution (other than UMass Amherst), an equivalent course must be Multivariable or Multivariate Calculus, which is sometimes called Calculus III. It should include vectors, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, and line integrals. (For more information, go to Taking Classes outside UMass Amherst.)

  • Courses offered in the summer are administered by CPE (Continuing and Professional Education), which means there is a fee to enroll. For more information, go to the CPE website.

Recommendations

  • If a student has earned AP credit for MATH 132, they are encouraged to take MATH 233, even though MATH 331 (Differential Equations) appears to be next in sequence on the Curriculum Worksheets. BS-CSE students can use MATH 233 as their Thematic elective.

  • However, MATH 233 should be relatively easy at the start; if the "review" part of the course near the beginning is covering new material for a particular student, they should probably switch into MATH 132.
