Earn an Elite Master’s Degree Without Interrupting Your Career
Prepare to lead the future of electrical and computer engineering. Learn industrial analytics, build intelligent machine applications, and develop cutting-edge skills that will make you a leader in the field.
The MS Field Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering is a 16-month master’s program designed for working engineers or recent graduates who are looking to grow their career and their skills at the same time. Engineers who want to play a central part in the creation and implementation of new technologies, and to bring that new knowledge back to their work, are the ideal candidates for this degree.
Professional and practical, the Field Degree provides high-level training and hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology, which culminates in a design-intensive capstone project. Students progress through the program together as a cohort and are taught exclusively by UMass Amherst professors for the duration of the program.

What Makes the Field Degree Unique?
The fastest way to get ahead in your engineering career.
The Field Degree program courses are held in the evening (Shanghai local) so professors can teach live from UMass Amherst and you can work during the day. And, unlike online and distance learning programs or traditional residential master’s programs, students progress through the Field Degree program together. In just 16 months, through live classes, office hours, and social and networking opportunities — just as you would with a traditional two–year M.S. program in the United States — you can complete your degree while advancing your career in China.
• 16-month intensive program (instead of 24 months)
• Dual campus: Your degree will span two continents, with UMass classes hosted at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai and a summer session on the UMass Amherst campus. All classes are taught by UMass Amherst faculty throughout the duration of the program
• A diploma and transcript from UMass Amherst for a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (the exact same degree as offered through the traditional US residential program)
• Exclusive internship opportunities with international employers such as GE, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft
