Distinctions of our undergraduate program include its Senior Design Project and maker space M5. These courses/resources provide hands-on project opportunities that complement our rigorous computer engineering and electrical engineering curricula. One consequence I’ve noted over the recent past is the increased desire of our undergrads to participate in nationwide competitions such as the IEEE Micromouse Contest and to organize and lead one of the largest regional hackathons HackUMass.
Our graduate program is home to the 35 year-old Raytheon Masters Program, and has its research organized around the areas of sensing systems, nanoelectronics, computer and embedded systems, Internet systems and communications and signal processing. Looking ahead, we will focus on bioelectronics (capitalizing on the campus’s investment in the Institute for Applied Life Sciences and the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring) and cyber security with an emphasis on hardware and physical layer systems.
